I have been wearing glasses and contacts for about fifteen years now. Through the years I have gone back and forth between either wearing contacts more or wearing eyeglasses more. When I was younger and more self-conscious, I wore my contacts more. Then when I was pregnant and preferred my glasses. Now, I wear my contacts most of the time but there are a lot of times that my eyes need a break from my contacts. I often have a problem wearing my contacts when I am at the beach — the wind, the sand, etc. However, my glasses do not provide my eyes with any UV protection or shading.
I have been thinking about buying prescription sun glasses on-line. I like that I can compare prices and look at a variety of styles, while saving some money. I have found a web site that has a large selection of sun glasses. I have been looking at the various styles and I think I have it narrowed to a couple of them. I am going to ask my husband for his option and then I think I am going to order some soon, so I will be able to protect my eyes and see well this summer!

Colds seem to arrive along with the holiday season but it’s not something we look forward to and it’s not a present we want. I found a great little solution to this problem several years ago.
I am not a doctor and I do not give medical advice. This works for me and it has worked for friends and relatives who I have shared it with. It’s effective by stopping the cold before it takes hold. It is very inexpensive and works quickly.
You must do this when you feel that tickle in the throat and you begin to feel a cold coming on; you know the feeling, it’s the one you had before you woke up the next day with a full blown cold. The best time to do this is before going to bed that night. I also do this when I have been around people who have a cold.
While lying on my side I have my helper add Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) to my ear, it bubbles and bubbles and can take several minutes before it stops. Once it stops, I turn over and drain that ear into a cloth and have drops put into the other ear.
Continue to alternate the process until you no longer hear the fizzle when you first insert the liquid. If you stop too soon, it won’t work.
Hydrogen Peroxide costs very little; just be sure you are using the 3% (available at drug stores, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc.)
My family and friends love it and have enjoyed being free of colds.

I have always struggled to keep my weight under control. Being over-weight affected my whole life, I was unable to wear the clothes I wanted to and I often felt guilty after eating certain foods. I read many books and attempted to follow a range of diets. For whatever reason this did not seem to help me, mainly because I could not stick to their weight loss programs due to my love of fatty foods.
One day I was talking to a neighbour who was not only very nice but also quite thin. She looked very fit and healthy and I enquired as to how she kept so trim.
This neighbour who is called Gillian seemed quite taken aback and even flattered by my question and went quite coy. She stated that at one point in her life, she had also had a weight problem and had not been happy about it. What she was about to say was quite a shock to me, however would eventually change my life.
She went on to say that wherever she went to at this stage of her life, she would travel to by car. Gillian had realised that in an average week, she did very little exercise and at times did none at all. She then went out and bought a dog and would take this pet for a walk at least twice a day. This was not a choir for Gillian and over the next few years even resulted in her meeting a number of new friends. Previously, Gillian had seen exercise as a hassle and very time consuming but on various days she would take her dog on four walks, she enjoyed it that much.
Gillian quickly noticed that not only was she losing weight but that she also felt a lot healthier. It was not long before she was at a weight she was happy with.
After listening to Gillian’s story I decided to follow her weight loss program. Yes I went and bought a dog and am happy to report that it has also worked for me.

And that ’s where long distance walking may come in. Walking is one of the best ways to lose weight. For one thing, it’s a gentle exercise, so you’re less likely to get injured and have to interrupt your exercise regimen. For another thing, anyone can do it - even if you have to start slow. Fitness guru Susan Powter, who once weighed 260 pounds (and now weighs about 103) started her weight loss with a simple walk around the block.
So by all means, if you need to start small, do so. Just start - walk a couple of blocks today, a couple more tomorrow, and keep doing it - for the long term. If your fitness level is better than that, walk more, or walk faster. Try some hills. Walk fast enough to break a sweat, every day.
Even more importantly, start thinking of yourself as a walker. Read the biographies of some of the great long distance walkers for inspiration. Fyyona Campbell, for example, was the first woman to walk around the world. (Walking around the world, by the way, is not literally possible for obvious reasons - but if you walk the length or width of any four continents, that counts as walking ‘around the world’ for the purposes of the Guiness Book or World Records.) Fyyona Campbell started when she was sixteen years old. A rebellious teenager, she ran away from home and set out to walk the length of the British Isles, from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Later, she walked Australia, Africa, Europe and America, thus becoming the first woman to officially walk ‘around the world’.
You may dream of becoming a long distance walker yourself - or you may set less lofty goals. In either case, if the idea of walking long distances appeals to you, just start at whatever point you happen to be at right now, in terms of your available time or your fitness level. To track the miles or kilometers you walk, invest in an inexpensive pedometer. This will give you a real sense of accomplishment. Even if you are only walking the seawall or the track near your home, look up the miles that you would have to walk to get to the next city. Then, set that mileage as your goal. See how long it takes you to walk that distance - can you do it in a week? In three days? Accomplish that goal, then set a new one. Can you walk the length of your province or state (or the equivalent) in the next month?
Besides giving you an inspiring goal that is more likely to keep you going in the long term, this approach to exercise gives you a unique perspective on things. As recently as a hundred years ago, going to the next city or town did entail a very long walk for most people.
