Paralegal Programs - Get Your Feet on the Ground

In the land of liberty, paralegals owe a great debt of gratitude to a couple of organizations. Of course, there are other professional organizations that have contributed to the evolution of the paralegal as a prominent career in the field of law, but the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) and the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) have stood out. Boasting tens of thousands of members between them, these competing organizations’ have helped sculpt and influence the language of the paralegal (also called legal assistant by NALA) field for decades.

Essential yardsticks to bear in mind when looking at any paralegal program:

1. Teaching practical, usable job skills in combination with fundamental legal principals are an essential part of any quality paralegal schools curriculum. In addition, paralegal degree programs should also cover topics like contract law, legal research, business organizations and legal writing. A quality paralegal school will focus their courses towards the development of an overall higher quality, well-rounded student. This would be done by designing courses that develop students’ hypercritical thinking abilities, organizational skills and their emotional and mental capacity to handle delicate ethical issues.

2. Who are the participants running the show? In other words, who were the people that put together the paralegal schools curriculum and who are teachers? Does the teaching staff and paralegal program director have outstanding educational credentials and the field experience to bring their book knowledge to life? Minimally, the program director should have a law degree or other type of advanced degree and the faculty must have real-world experience working with paralegals but preferably as a paralegal and they must be an “expert” in the subject matter they are teaching.

3. Online learning, also called distance learning has become the latest craze in the pursuit of paralegal degree excellence but an important question to ask your-self before taking the online paralegal programs plunge; is it right for me? Pursuing a paralegal degree online is obviously different than campus learning because regardless of how the material is delivered (video or web-based content or tele-courses, etc.) the entire teacher / student relationship is much different and you need to decide if you can learn that way. If yes, go for it because there are many benefits; if not, then you need to find the nearest campus based paralegal school.

As the old saying goes, “if you want more than just a job and you have what it takes” then in today’s uncertain economy a career in law as a paralegal, is about as good as opportunities get. Undoubtedly, opportunity knocks for those that have the required drive and training. So if you’ve been sitting on the fence; the time is now, jump down and go get your paralegal degree.

Paralegal - Here’s Mud in Your Eye

What’s the old saying, “the only thing that’s constant is change” but in the world of the paralegal there is one small caveat to that old adage when it comes to certification. Like most professions, changes in technology, rules and regulations have dictated rather dramatic changes in how an individual is trained and that holds true for paralegals. However, the requirement to become certified has remained unchanged; which means there is no certification requirement. Of course, a good percentage of fresh faced paralegal school trained graduates do take one of the many certification tests available shortly after graduation but the fact remains it’s still not required.

Important aspects to keep in mind when analyzing a paralegal program:

1. Paralegal schools should educate students with the primary objective being to development the entire student. This needs to be done by teaching usable, sensible workforce skills alongside a solid core of legal theory. The curriculum should encompass topics like torts and legal contracts, legal writing and contracts, litigation and legal research. Organizational and communication skills must be developed in addition to a student’s capacity to think critically and apply the legal theory into real world situations. A high quality paralegal school will also provide the opportunity to learn through programs like an internship or clinical experience.

2. You’ve done some research and narrowed your “possibilities” down to a few paralegal schools. Now you need to ask yourself a few questions. Are the teachers any good? Is the curriculum applicable in today’s legal arena? Good questions and here are a few answers. Look for the program director to have a law degree and a solid track record of experience working as an educator or trainer in the legal field. Find out if the instructors are paralegals with real-world work experience who really know their stuff and with impeccable educational credentials.

3. Are you looking for a traditional campus environment or online training? Online paralegal training is becoming increasingly popular but is an online learning environment right for you? In addition, you need to find out what type of training system will be used (i.e. interactive video or web-based, etc.) and how much interaction takes place between the teachers and you (the student). Additionally, if you’ve never taken online classes before, you need to decide if you have the motivation and discipline to do the assignments on your own.

Even if down the road your goal is to become a lawyer, starting your professional life in law as a paralegal is a wise initial step. Earning your paralegal degree will allow you to get a foothold into the legal field, which in turn will expose additional opportunities. And then, down the road you can make a more informed decision as to whether or not to pursue your law degree or to keep working as a paralegal. In any case, opportunities will be many.

Legal Assistant - Coming up Roses

The field of law is a vast arena of rules and regulations but one key player; the legal assistant is surprisingly exempt from one rule. Paralegals, after decades of existence are still not required to become “certified”. Clearly, it made sense backs in the 1960s when the profession first evolved out of a need for attorneys to free up their time from doing the “less lawyerly” activities like filling out documents, standard research and other office related paperwork. But you would think over the ensuing years that this would have been “corrected” but for some reason it has not. On the other hand, the marketplace has changed and more and more employers are now requiring that potential employees gain some type of certification before they will be considered for employment.

Crucial benchmarks to gauge when examining the standard of a legal assistant program:

1. Paralegal degree programs need to teach both legal concepts and theory alongside usable, hands-on job skills. A solid legal assistant school curriculum should also stress a wide range of topics from legal contracts and litigation to legal writing, legal research, torts and ethics. The really exceptional legal assistant schools will focus on the entire development of their students’ by refining and honing their critical thinking abilities and by offering them the opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience through and internship or practicum.

2. Who are the participants running the show? In other words, who were the people that put together the legal assistant schools curriculum and who are teachers? Does the teaching staff and legal assistant program director have outstanding educational credentials and the field experience to bring their book knowledge to life? Minimally, the program director should have a law degree or other type of advanced degree and the faculty must have real-world experience working with legal assistants but preferably as a legal assistant and they must be an “expert” in the subject matter they are teaching.

3. Distance learning, also called online learning is becoming all the rage but is getting your legal assistant degree or legal assistant certificate from an online legal assistant school right for you? Online learning is clearly different than traditional campus based learning but regardless of how the information is delivered (i.e. interactive video, tele-courses, etc.) the student / teacher interaction isn’t the same. Plus, online learning takes more self-discipline and motivation than campus learning and you have to make the determination that you have what it takes to complete the assignments.

Unquestionably, exploring a legal assistant career isn’t for every Tom, Dick or Harry or Sally or Susie for that matter but for those individuals that yearn to dip their toe into the field of law, and still enjoy the status and professional satisfaction of a law career without having to attend law school for 4 years, then becoming a legal assistant is your ticket.

Scientific Opinion during the Time of Darwin

Of all writers of his day, Sir Charles Lyell, as much as anyone, represented the opinions of the most advanced thinkers in the period immediately preceding that of Charles Darwin’s life. Lyell wrote, in recapitulating the facts and arguments supporting the invariability and permanence of species:

“The entire variation from the original type which any given kind of change can produce may usually be effected in a brief period of time, after which no further deviation can be obtained by continuing to alter the circumstances indefinite divergence either in the way of improvement or deterioration being prevented, and the least possible excess beyond the defined limits being fatal to the existence of the individual.”

Elsewhere Lyell writes that “varieties of some species may differ more than other species do from each other without shaking our confidence in the reality of species.” Lyell further maintains certain facts in geology are, “fatal to the theory of progressive development.” Lyell believed that there are so often distinct species in countries of similar climate and vegetation by “special creations” in each country; and these conclusions were arrived at after study of Lamarck’s work, of which a full abstract is given in the earlier editions of the Principles of Geology.

Professor Agassiz went even further when he wrote that not only was each species specially created, but that the species was created in the proportions and in the where they now exist. This extract from Agassiz’ book on Lake Superior explains that there are animals with peculiar adaptations that are characteristic of their species, and cannot be supposed to have arisen from subordinate influences. Those that live in shoals cannot be supposed to have been created in single pairs. Those who happened to be the food source of others cannot have been created in the same proportions as those which fed upon them. Those creatures that are everywhere found in innumerable specimens must have been introduced in numbers capable of maintaining their normal proportions to those which live isolated and are comparatively and constantly diminished.

Paralegal - The Apple Of His Eye

Important aspects to keep in mind when analyzing a paralegal program:

1. Paralegal degree courses must teach hands-on applicable job skills in addition to bottom-line legal theory. The curriculum should also emphasize legal writing, torts, legal contracts and research and legal ethics. Paralegal schools should advance a students’ discriminating thinking capacity along with communication, organizational skills and an aptitude to correctly handle ethical issues. An opportunity to gain real-world experience before graduation through internships or clinical experience is also important.

2. Unquestioned belief to the value of the paralegal position within the legal field, from both the program director and the faculty, is essential. Plus, both the paralegal school “dean” and the teachers need to have the desired scholastic accreditation to run the program and to teach the curriculum. In a perfect world, the “dean” would have a law degree and the teachers would be considered “experts” in their fields with an advanced paralegal degree and measurable experience.

3. Distance learning, also called online learning is becoming all the rage but is getting your paralegal degree or paralegal certificate from an online paralegal school right for you? Online learning is clearly different than traditional campus based learning but regardless of how the information is delivered (i.e. interactive video, tele-courses, etc.) the student / teacher interaction isn’t the same. Making Sense out of Algebra

It is safe to say that algebra is the core of mathematics. If you really want to know about mathematics and its fundamentals then you should have a complete and in depth knowledge of algebra. Deriving the answer for the product of 223 and 112 is quite easy if you use a calculating machine. However, in a case where you need to work around the exponential of 223 and logarithm of 112, you will surely need an algebraic software application. Graphing a circle will be easy for this given formula X2 + Y2 = 4 but when it comes for an inequality like (X-2)2 + (Y-4)2 > 20 then it will be quite harder to plot the graph. In this situation algebra software package can help you a lot because once you enter the inequality in the program, the graph will get drawn automatically within no time. These kinds of packages can easily resolve any kind of algebraic, arithmetic and radical expressions of any level of difficulty.

Domain and Range of a Function

Although, finding the domain and range of a function such as Y = X2 can be easily found by considering the number range on the X-Y plane, defining the domain and range of a log(tan 2x + sin 3x) = cosine(-4)(2x) will be excessively difficult. But thanks to algebra calculators, you can now solve these complicated sums in no time while being able to understand every step of the way that it takes you to successfully work out the mathematical question.

Coordinate Geometry

It is now, easier than ever to find the vertex and directrix or whether a parabola opens up or down, using algebra software. Addition, subtraction and multiplication of polynomials are quite boring, since they involve lots of terms to manipulate. However, by leaving the job up to algebra calculators, you will be able to get results within a shorter period with 100% accuracy. Solving determinants and matrices of 3×3 or 4×4 order can become very hard since it involves lots of calculation; getting inverse of matrices even more so. However using algebra software will make this task much simpler.

So now you don’t need to start worrying when you see indices, rational numbers or exponential equations. Parabolas, hyperbolas or ellipses can all be easily graphed within computer algebra systems.

Are You Left Handed? College Scholarships Could Help Fund Your Higher Education

It is not simple to find a scholarship these days. These scholarships are not the same as a student loan because the money is a grant, and therefore, don’t need to be paid back. While searching methods to finance your further instruction, check the many unusual choices, such as financing for left-handed scholars.

Scholarships for Left Handers

A left-handed scholarship may initially look out of the norm, however it’s worth considering these facts: Julius Caesar was left-handed, so is the president of the United States, Barack Obama. Raphael, Da Vinci, Bob Dylan not to mention were left-handed as well. An estimated eleven percent of the population are southpaws. Often considered more talented in the arts and to be smarter, left-handers have frequently been the victims of discrimination in the past. Today, lefties are no longer stigmatised or thought of as odd, in fact they may even be linked with the great individuals referred to above.

There are various funds accessible specifically for left handed individuals when you know where to search. The Frederick and Mary F. Beckley Scholarship for 1000 USD is available at Juniata College in Huntington, PA. For scholars of Juniata College and it was established in the seventies, this college grant has helped forty plus students in their quest for further education.

Whilst looking for school scholarships, be mindful that some of them have prerequisites or limitations. Sometimes particular grades may be needed or particular financial requirements must be met. Multiple program applications will step-up the prospects of finishing with a negligible level of debt. Societies, groups affiliated with hobbies and even local organizations can provide college scholarships. Bursaries for left-handed students are just an example; grants are available in other instances such as the students from military families or if you are disabled.

Looking for grants can take a little work, of course the rewards can be sizable. Utilized in conjunction with regular lending, they are effective at cutting back the unavoidable debt generated by a university education. Be sure to enquire into every last scholarship. Do remember the other options as well as lefty grants - write a list of all the options you can think of and utilize every accessible resource. If you imagine you may be suitable, then apply, keeping your student debt minimal, also you will most probably look forward to better prospects after leaving college.

Determining the Perfect Fire Alarm System for Your House

The worst thing that can occur to your belongings or house is being burned down by fire. When your household is robbed, only your valuables are removed. But, everything is obliterated when fires take place. This is the most awful scenario a family can be in.

This is the cause why property owners for houses, firms and even banks invest a substantial quantity of money in fire protection and prevention. Another reason why they do so is because some burglars use fires as a diversionary attack or as a component of their operations scheme. Unneeded to say, burglary prevention is still an serious component to deliberate in building security measures.

As a resolution, security systems now account for both robbery and Fire Suppression Systems. These schemes take into consideration the entry areas for burglars such as doorways, windows and big spaces that can accomodate or permit a or someone to get in and pass through. They also look at fire inclined areas such as libraries, living rooms and carpeted levels. Some total security units also include a twenty-four hour monitoring function that bills monthly dues.

Due to their comparatively high price, these accomplished alarm systems are exclusively found on families that distinctly could afford such. Those who cannot afford such advanced alarm systems settle down for the more cheap yet ever reliable smoke sensors and fire extinguishers. They may be low-cost but they are very efficient in early fire detecting and curtailment.

So why refuse the prospect of protecting your families.(Actually, it only goes off, you still need to manually engage the fire extinguisher). Fire sensors are used complementarily with fire extinguishers, another fundamental fire quelling equipment. Why, virtually all fires can be subdued with water (or cushion or mat, as long as it ’smothers’ the fire) but some fires DO get worse with water, in fact grease fires are really serious if put on with water. Thus, fire extinguisher should it be.

We have two forms of smoke and fire sensors and each one is to be utilized where it’s most effective. Ionization sensors are the most affordable (the one Ive mentioned) and the simplest to instal, the simplest to maintain but is more likely to generate wrong alerts due to their delicate nature. Ideally, ionization sensors are to be set up in rooms bearing flammable materials and photoelectric for rooms having laden with furniture that smolders before bursting into flames.

While most fire suppression systems is used now are fume detectors, other models make use of heat and temperature to find out the bearing of fire. In some cases like gas and alcohol burning, these flames create little smoke which may not trip the fume detectors instantly. So, the type of fire detector to be rightly used should be cautiously studied before installing them.
