Risk Assessment Process - the Facts Concerning it All

There’s more involved in turning a profit than income alone - it’s important to be bringing in money cost-effectively. A simple and frequently overlooked aid to doing so is performance management software. It’s common knowledge that an efficient business tailors its procedures to the abilities of each member of staff to get the most out of them. Discovering and collating this knowledge tends to be where it gets challenging, however.

Looking at one part of this — staff appraisal— defining progress and tracking it is a significant hassle. First, you set up employee appraisal techniques to evaluate and track all work carried out by each member of staff. Assessing all of this data is next. After all, before you can put it to use determining goals and tracking future progress it’s important to know what the pure information actually tells you.

Employing performance management software you’ll find that this appraisal is taken care of and you only need to scrutinize the various metrics and factors to determine what the right set of targets for this staff member would be. It also makes keeping track of the staff member’s development much simpler. This eliminates the demands on your time and may even be more useful. It is also possible, of course, just to use the software to track raw data like performance reviews and to make your own analysis. Performance appraisal software can do more than help employees. You can also use the software to study your suppliers & clients. You can find out who provides products with the best quality, at the lowest prices as well as highlight those with high rates of loss or poor delivery times.

Clients can be examined with relation to your own company, and once again it’s possible to benefit your bank balance. This information is useful in minimizing expenses and boosting profits. Who wouldn’t want to take advantage of that? Not only that but a greater awareness of your market will allow easier planning for your advertising. You can analyze your suppliers in order to minimize costs and stay abreast of your target market so that you can boost profit using performance management software. With a program of regular employee assessment such app can accelerate employee performance management dramatically. In summary, it’s clear that the potential benefits of this system are endless and will depend solely on your own creativity and ability to use the information provided.

Upturn in Grade A office refurb’s expected

Top UK property consultant group GVA Grimley has predicted that according to its research market trends will favour office space refurbishment over building developments starting from scratch.

Given the current finance crisis and concerns about potential renter outlooks, new development within London has ground to a near full stop. Since the occupier market is now starting to return to the city at the same time of the development stall out, this will more than likely produce a shortage of prime desk space in various markets.

Landlords and developers instead will be forced to find a quicker approach to produce top A grade office space, which in turn will increase the amount of refurbishment projects.

Head of the GVA Grimley’s Leeds office agency Don Hodge commented that Grand A office space is already starting to be in high demand within the market in West Yorkshire.

Hodge continued to state that Leeds had 1,250,000 sq ft of Grade A office space planned to be developed by 2012, out of which about 30% will actually be completed. Many other large schemes have been stalled due to economic reasons, which means that there will be a long period during which prime office space is in short supply forcing landlords to consider refurbishment as an option.

Refurbishment is a viable option for landlords due to the fact that it promises quicker results, lower waste costs, and lower building material costs. Additionally, refurbishment offers high tax return relief’s, especially if a site is within a disadvantage area, and will bring the area back into use.

Volunteering Your Time to Worthy Causes

Volunteering; a bridge to a stronger community, and supporting the nearby needy. As they say, “charity begins at home”. Of course, making arrangements to be free to volunteer often actually squanders some of that very same free time. Of course you’ll have more fun volunteering with your friends from work pitching in right along with you.

Reacting to this issue, some socially-conscious companies are integrating organizing points to help their employees work for the community through volunteer activities. One of the more significant examples is Adaptive Marketing LLC who also offer programs including Passport to Fun to consumers. Luckily, company supported volunteer work has developed beyond blood drives and annual donations. The employees of Adaptive Marketing are regularly given the chance to take part in community initiatives with more and less effort required. By centralizing the organization individual initiatives blossomed into events, with specific locations, dates and times publicized early to make time management easy for volunteers.

Making sure volunteers have their say in what activities are available is essential. Staff from Adaptive Marketing, the company that offers the program Passport to Fun, can select from a selection of activities. Earlier projects have ranged between a wide range of areas including education for children and young adults, environmental awareness activities, and events supporting artistic projects. Adaptive Marketing’s members of staff have so much to choose from that they’re sure to choose something they enjoy to volunteer for, making their time enjoyable as well as fulfilling.

A single big event or a regular addition to their schedule — these are the most common ways for a business to organize this kind of volunteer initiative, maybe at a local school or the homeless shelter in town. Staff members may well say they have no time to give, but even they can often set aside enough resources to help at some smaller one-day event. Turning their profit-making skills to the benefit of the community around them has long been a tradition at many commercial enterprises. Goodwill comes from the projects undertaken by Adaptive Marketing’s staffers, and the staffers of companies like it, through company sponsored programs like those outlined earlier. Volunteering to help others leaves you feeling much better about yourself — exactly what you need, of course, to get employees motivated both in their volunteer activities and back behind their desks, too.

Festive Period is Also High Stress Period - IOSH

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has cautioned that the festive season will also be a highly stressful season for many, as worries about money, expenses, chores and work will increase. Employers are being asked to ensure that employees do not succumb to excessive pressure by ensuring that work-related stress is within manageable limits.

The IOSH has said that festive seasons bring a number of responsibilities like gift shopping, visiting friends and relatives and entertaining, which mean more expense and effort for most people. Under these circumstances, people tend to become highly stressed as they race against time to complete all that is required for them to do.

The past years’ economic slowdown has also contributed to high anxiety levels in the minds of people. Many have lost their jobs, still others have settled for lower incomes and in general, the financial conditions of most people are not as good as it used to be. Given this, high expenses during this period can lead to worries and tension. In such scenario, if there is added pressure at work, employees may well snap under the pressure.

Festive activities like last minute shopping and entertaining can be very tedious at times, leading to high frustration levels. Some employees, especially those working in restaurants, pubs and shops, are under great pressure during the festive season as many people flock to these places during festive periods. Such employees are required to work through the holidays, leaving children behind at home. Thus they have to bear the additional concern of childcare.

Hence, with worries about childcare, mounting expenses and job security, employees are hard pressed to stay cheerful and balanced during the festive season. John Holden, president of IOSH, said in this regard that employers must keep in mind these factors and be more attentive about employee health from now on. Employers and managers are being asked to keep a watch over employees to ensure that they can deal proactively with stress. Workplace Law offer IOSH Training and all the advice and information needed for managers to successfully manage appropriate policies and procedures and improve upon management skills to help tackle stress in the workplace.

When Did You Previously Inspect Your ISA Investments?

With the financial turmoil earlier in the year and the threat of continued global recession still causing issues for investors, it might not seem to be the best time to review your ISA investments and investments.

However, in many respects this could be the ideal opportunity to take out a revaluation of your holdings. History has indicated that most savers buy ISA’s at the top of the market and are inclined to sell at the bottom. In reality, investors should be buying at the bottom and hopefully trading at the peak of a market. It is true, though the global stock markets has recovered considerably since March 2009, it could be argued that savers should now be considering the investment opportunities that are open to them.

If you have a group of Stock & Shares ISA investments with various fund providers it may be worth reviewing your holdings to ensure that your existing investments meet your attitude towards saving. You should also check into to make sure the actual investment funds are performing well when compared to their competition.

Investors can often find that if their Savings and investments have not been checked out for some time, the level of risk they might be taking might not reflect the level risk, they would be happy to bear.

If you want to find out more about the actual ISA investments, rules and limits, please see the Idividual Savings Accounts part of our website. Savers might also consider taking a look at our investment philosphy documentand how to view investment risk.

Paralegal Programs - Get Your Feet on the Ground

In the land of liberty, paralegals owe a great debt of gratitude to a couple of organizations. Of course, there are other professional organizations that have contributed to the evolution of the paralegal as a prominent career in the field of law, but the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) and the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) have stood out. Boasting tens of thousands of members between them, these competing organizations’ have helped sculpt and influence the language of the paralegal (also called legal assistant by NALA) field for decades.

Essential yardsticks to bear in mind when looking at any paralegal program:

1. Teaching practical, usable job skills in combination with fundamental legal principals are an essential part of any quality paralegal schools curriculum. In addition, paralegal degree programs should also cover topics like contract law, legal research, business organizations and legal writing. A quality paralegal school will focus their courses towards the development of an overall higher quality, well-rounded student. This would be done by designing courses that develop students’ hypercritical thinking abilities, organizational skills and their emotional and mental capacity to handle delicate ethical issues.

2. Who are the participants running the show? In other words, who were the people that put together the paralegal schools curriculum and who are teachers? Does the teaching staff and paralegal program director have outstanding educational credentials and the field experience to bring their book knowledge to life? Minimally, the program director should have a law degree or other type of advanced degree and the faculty must have real-world experience working with paralegals but preferably as a paralegal and they must be an “expert” in the subject matter they are teaching.

3. Online learning, also called distance learning has become the latest craze in the pursuit of paralegal degree excellence but an important question to ask your-self before taking the online paralegal programs plunge; is it right for me? Pursuing a paralegal degree online is obviously different than campus learning because regardless of how the material is delivered (video or web-based content or tele-courses, etc.) the entire teacher / student relationship is much different and you need to decide if you can learn that way. If yes, go for it because there are many benefits; if not, then you need to find the nearest campus based paralegal school.

As the old saying goes, “if you want more than just a job and you have what it takes” then in today’s uncertain economy a career in law as a paralegal, is about as good as opportunities get. Undoubtedly, opportunity knocks for those that have the required drive and training. So if you’ve been sitting on the fence; the time is now, jump down and go get your paralegal degree.
