Determining the Right Hosting
Aside from pricing there are a lot of characteristics to reckon when picking out a hosting company. The first thing to be alert of is what kind of site you are planning to operate on the server. If you’re planning to run a dot net or ASP web site you have to choose a Windows IIS answer and if you project to operate PHP or a Word Press web log, you must pick out a UNIX based Apache Server.
After selection of the proper platform you have to make sure you have limitless bandwidth and transfer and frequently it is also for your vantage to be capable to setup infinite e-mail accountings. If you operate dot net or ASP you must have access to a MSSQL host and make sure the price for that is fair. Running PHP or Word Press site requires a MySQL database and naturally a PHP5 facility.
Uptime is important, 99.99 % uptime is essential, no host will assure you 100 % uptime. You will also want to look at the service and support from your hosting company to be able to operate your site as flowing as viable, which is also needed for Google optimisation and SEO in general.
Word Press is advocated for a inexpensive and adjustable WWW solution and hosting your site on a UNIX based host working Apache and MySQL is an approved web hosting solution which is easy to keep up without computer programing acquirements and knowledge and Word Press is also simple to optimize for search engines like Google and Bing.
Your World Wide Web ISP is the base of your web presence and it is very essential to choose the right web host from the beginning. You can transfer host later, but doing proper search to find a serious hosting company from the start is the smartest act, especially if you plan to get a vast amount of traffic which should be able to build without the downtime which will occur during transfer from one server to another.

One of the most fundamental aspects of any web marketing strategy is how do I win in the serps. How do I get my site to rank well in Google?
One of the most essential facets in doing better in the search engines (assuming the basics like great content are already in place) is getting links to your site. You can produce this a lots of different ways, some taken positively by the engines and some not so happily.
One of the trustworthy ways, that the serps think is alright is link building with articles.
Basically this requires writing a thorough article, preferably about something from your area of knowledge, and then posting it to a free article directory.
You really should not undervalue the seriousness of link building. If there is one signal that is important to the search engines, on the whole, it is links. Sure, there are loads of other signals, such as the domain name, but you are kidding if you guess you are going to be listed well, and easily noticed, if you do not cause any links.
Building links with articles is easy. It is something the search engines say is okay. And, it adds value to the web, by providing valuable content that might be interesting or useful to users. The real question is what are you waiting for?

All the great efforts made for making your own site, goes in vain when your site doesn’t bring you business. The reasons can be anything right from less traffic, to less page-per-views, or lesser PageRank. Upon serendipity of elaborating all of the above said problems, I would land up in search engine marketing basics.
- Less Traffic means fewer hits to your site.
- Fewer pages per views mean users checking your site but not getting interested in clicking on other pages. They don’t find it interesting to surf through.
- Lesser PageRank. PageRank is Google’s way of measuring the quality of a site. They will give your site a rank marking out of 10 as maximum. So your site may stand 0/10 initially. Then it may acquire higher PR (PageRank) according to the above said factor enhancements. It is to be noted that a PageRank of 4 is thousands time better than a PageRank of 3.
- If your site doesn’t appear on any search engine result pages (SERPs), upon searching for any keyword, then it may take a backseat.
So here is some advice to what can be done to improve it.
For outrageous results on your business-through site, make your site lucrative in terms of design. Such imponderable designing factors as aesthetic sensibility and human-user friendly site-making can be an obstacle. But you have to go through each and every aspect of your site to make a mark through your site. So design terminology would go as follows:
The architecture-savvy site should or I would say must have Home, About us, Contact us, sitemap, products, articles. All these links and others should be present on each and every page of the site, so that these are accessible from every corner of the site.
Interlinking of the site pages would make an impact, so I will add-up here that sitemap plays a vital role in connecting your site in a star-shaped connectivity. Whereas, product information to users can be conveyed via articles. So articles need to be well placed and comprehensive in language.
I would like to share my experiences on how your keywords can be found out by a human user, who doesn’t know about your site. A normal person goes to internet and opens up any search engine to look for the information on the product he/she wants to purchase. Now he is landing up on the pages where a site of your competition tops and the user clicks and buys the necessary things; you stand to be the loser. Here comes the role play of keywords on your site.
Your site should be full of keywords, which are, or related to the products on your site. The articles would be enriched with these keywords. Title, description and images of the pages should be named with the keywords.
If your site is selling an ebook on meditation, then the keywords will be the same as the product and they will read as “ebook on meditation”, “find peace online”, or “online meditation book” on your site. More these kind of keywords are accommodated on your site, the more your site could be searched out by a user via using any search engine.
Is there any special way by which search engines work and pick up the site for the keywords?
Yes, they do. They have automated crawler or human auditor system. The crawler acts as a scanner, a human user uses the search engine to find out ebook on meditation, he types in the same keywords, and the search engine crawlers at the backend does the scanning on the server database to find out the same keywords. If they find the keyword on a genuine site and appearing explicitly and not spammed, then they will show that site on top. The keyword search via automated crawler will be broken down into a few steps as follows:
- Crawlers will check out for the content of the site, expert pages (expert pages are the product related pages, or articles), title and descriptions of the site.
- They will also read the headings on the page which is mainly H1 sized headings, and yes if they read as “ebook on meditation” then an added advantage for those keywords to your site.
- Crawlers will also look for the Meta tags, Meta descriptions and Alt tags used.
- Crawlers are more prominent and effectuously look for the anchor text pointing towards your site. Anchor text has been explained below:
Anchor text (link text) is the text that points towards the page or resource for which the link has been placed. It is the normal text attached to the URL of any site. Clicking on that text it will take you to that URL/site. A link can lead to either a page on the same site (internal link) or to a page on a different site (external link). Thus, a user who clicks on one of your site’s internal links would be directed to another page on your site.
Linking further is bifurcated into two parts, namely Incoming and outgoing. An incoming link is an external link that appears on a different site and points toward your site, while an outgoing link is an external link that appears on your site but points toward a different site.
The link text is also known as Title and it’s followed by a nice description. Description again can contain keywords of your site; it’s a little advantage to your site but surely is a benefit. Links are usually placed on the Links page or Resources page of the site; some sites name these pages as “Other sites” or “Other cool links.”
A title should not exceed 65 characters but we recommend a title of not more than 55 characters and a description of not more than 250 characters in length as per latest strategies of search engines.
The more the number of links pointing towards your site, with the right anchor text, the more meritorious results of your online presence for that keyword.
If you want to know more on types of linking, and what kind of links benefit and what are the hazards of linking for your site, please feel free to contact author. He shall serve you for no charges.

The world of search engine marketing (SEM) is in constant evolution. With increased numbers of search engines, and evolution in the techniques and technologies used, SEM is becoming a tool industries cannot afford to do without. Trends all over the world show that the pressure for SEM services is starting to come from their customers. Indeed, SEM is quickly evolving as the buzzword in a new, technology-driven advertising and on line marketing space. As a result, companies that are serious about their internet presence are making search engine marketing a key component in their advertising campaign.
Google, Yahoo and MSN own the majority of the search engine market share, with Google being the strongest. AOL, Ask Jeeves and Altavista capture smaller shares in the market, while a number of other geographically-specific and market-specific search engines compete in their own niches. In a study conducted in July 2005, Nielson/Netratings reported that the search engine market share was highest for Google at 48%. Yahoo and MSN had the market shares of 22% and 12% respectively.
MSN and Google were also the top destinations for most online purchases, reported a study conducted by comScore Networks (June 2005). The study highlighted that iMSN searchers were 48% more likely to buy online than the average Internet user. Google users were 42% more likely to buy online than the average Internet user. It also came to notice that while Google searches looked for more sophisticated search terms, simple broad term searches occurred for AOL, Yahoo and MSN.
One thing is becoming clearer today: Search engine advertising is not another Internet bubble, it is driven by users and the fact that people, everywhere, need to go somewhere to search and find information. Take China for example - who’s heard of Baidu.com? Not too many people. It’s a Chinese search engine that has been around for 5 years and is the World’s 6th most-visited Internet site, thanks to China’s fast growing internet market, currently with more just over 100 million Web surfers. Baidu is recently went through an initial public offering where is share price when from $27 to $150 in the period of a day. And what about Google? It recently reported quarterly revenues of $1.4 billion. Google’s revenues excluding its payments for other Web sites in its advertising network jumped to $890 million, an increase of 110% from a year before and above the expected $842 million.
US Online Marketing Forecast: 2005 to 2010 by Forrester Research (May 2005) revealed that the arena for search engine marketing is all set to rise and will show growth of 33% in 2005. Forecasts reveal that the figures will reach $11.6 billion by 2010. Display advertising, which includes traditional banners and sponsorships, will grow at the average rate of 11% the next five years to $8 billion by 2010. US online advertising and marketing spending will reach $14.7 billion in 2005, a 23% increase over 2004. Trends also showed that while SEM is set to become more effective than traditional marketing channels, barriers include a lack of online advertising experience. However, search engine marketing firms are embracing this new branch of advertising and their customers are reaping the extremely lucrative rewards.

The date: 29th July 2005. The time: early morning. I got out of bed and fired up my PC. Opened my browser to check my site. Had a look at the third-party Google toolbar plugin (http://toolbar.google.com/) on said browser (FireFox). It showed grey.
Ice formed in my stomach. I opened my bugged version of Internet Explorer: my PageRank was 0. By now I was frantic. I went to http://www.google.com and typed in ’site:www.tigertom.com’: no pages listed. I did this for two other satellite sites of mine: ditto.
What had happened?
TigerTom.Com (http://www.tigertom.com) had been banned by Google. I went to the WebmasterWorld forum (http://www.webmasterworld.com), and found out the awful truth. Google was doing one of its periodic updates of its algorithm, and had filtered out my sites completely.
Further research there, and a bit of soul-searching, revealed why. I had too many pseudo-directory pages with auto-generated external links. Snippets from search engine results were used as descriptions of said links. Said links were run though a redirect script. These are hallmarks of pseudo-directories and ‘AdSense scraper’* sites. Google is reportedly trying to filter these from its ‘SERPs’**. I say reportedly, because Google doesn’t announce these purges. They are inferred.
To compound my sins, these pages were also effectively doorway pages.
The theory was that legitimate sites had been hit as ‘collateral damage’. I say theory, in that Google rarely comments on individual cases. It won’t tell you exactly why your site was banned. I guess this is for reasons of time, and to give no clues to spammers.
In my case the ban was justified for my two satellite sites; while not looking like spam, they were effectively doorway sites.
My main site was different. It had offending pages, but was mostly a diverse labour of seven years; a personal site on steroids.
Google bans sites algorithmically: a site that fits their ’spammer’ profile gets dropped via software from their index automatically. Real spammers shrug their shoulders and move on; honest webmasters write emails begging for mercy.
Like me.
I did some searching via Google, to find out how to do a re-inclusion request. Here’s how:
1. First, you check your site is truly gone, by going to http://www.google.com, typing ’site:www.yourdomain.com’ without the apostrophes. If it returns no pages at all …
2. You check Google’s webmaster guidelines at http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html. These are not really guidelines; you should treat them as iron-clad rules.
3. You stop the offending content from being web-accessible, permanently.
If you’re familiar with Apache web-server mod_rewrite you can:
- Send a 410 ‘Gone’ response to requests for the offending pages, or
- CHMOD them to 600, which will return a 403 ‘Forbidden’ response, or
- Move them to a different directory if you need to keep them, or
- Just delete them.
Don’t try to be clever. Just get rid of them.
4. You go to http://www.google.com/support/bin/request.py, tick the relevant boxes, and type ‘Re-inclusion request’ in the subject box of the form.
4a. You add the complete URL of your site i.e. http://www.naughtydomain.com,
4b. You state that you have read the webmaster guidelines above,
4c. You admit what you did wrong; simply, succinctly, with no carping or special pleading.
Don’t try to be clever. Don’t argue. Don’t lie. Don’t waffle.
Google has cached copies of your site. When an engineer checks your
site, he’ll look for the offending content, and compare it against
their cache. He’ll spend about two minutes on it; don’t give him a reason to continue to exclude you.
4d. You ask for re-inclusion.
5. You wait.
In my case, it took about a week; a long, unpleasant, fretful week. I sent follow up emails saying what I was doing, and a fax, and I was going to write letters if that didn’t work. That was probably excessive. Once you have a ticket number, that’s all that should be necessary.
They emailed a standard reply saying “the problem had been passed to their engineers”. That’s good. I understand they send no reply to spammers.
A week later my site was back in. Lesson learnt. To make sure I’m not so vulnerable again, I’m splitting my content to different sites, on the principle of ‘best not to have all your eggs in one basket’.
Have I learnt anything from this? Yes. Have more than one site as your ‘money-maker’. Spend less time on search engine optimisation and more on traditional marketing. Come up with a unique selling proposition that compels people to link to your site. Easy(!)
——
* A site specifically set up to host Google Adsense advertisements (http://www.google.com/adsense). Usually of low quality, consisting of pages of links to other web sites, text copied from free-print articles, and a big Google ad block ‘above the fold’.
** Search Engine Result Pages
Doorway pages are low-quality keyword-rich web pages whose sole purpose is to lead the viewer to the ‘real’ content, usually whatever the site is selling.

So you built a website, you have a product, but it’s not selling. What’s your sales message? Does your site scream out to potential customers “BUY ME!!” or does it simply say “Hi, we’re here, we have a product, if you want one…well you could buy it here…or go…YUCK!
Let’s look at a simple way of changing that perspective of using a call to action.
Dr. Jerry Teplitz in one of his lessons at a place I will call IBI. You can look at it as the Free Enterprise Forum through IBI Global, located at IBI GLOBAL described people’s reading habits when reading a webpage as that of looking at a large capital letter “Z”.
Within that letter “Z” are about 5-6 action points or calls to action. At least there should be. Upper left…Subscribe to our newsletter…upper right…BUY our PRODUCT…middle of the page…did you know this?…lower left…join our mailing list…lower right…BUY MORE PRODUCTS.
Question is, does your web page do this? If not, it should. Why? What if I told you that by doing this one simple thing, that you could increase your revenue from your website by as much as 30%! Would you do it then? If you were making $0.00 and you could increase that by 30% I think you might. Or if you were making $1,000.00 per month and you could increase that to $1,300.00 per month..or more. It keeps going up. Best part is 30% is not the limit of the increase. It goes up exponentially.
Granted this will not do it alone. You still need traffic coming that is searching for your product, or your service, and you need an attractive price point to deliver them to your shopping cart. However, this will increase their stay time on your website, and the longer people are there, the more apt they are to buy. This is a proven fact.
Language is key to everything in sales. Positioning of the product, size of images, attractiveness of the image/box, the way you ask someone to buy. The way that you “close” the sale.
Don’t be afraid to ask for the business. Ask for it directly. Offer incentives to customers. Offer a money-back guarantee. All of these things instill confidence in your being the best alternative and make sure that you communicate that they’d be foolish to do business with anyone else but you.
You can be direct in that language “You’d be foolish to buy a product similar to this one”. Or you could say “If I were you, I’d think twice about purchasing a “similar” product. You figure out what works for your buying public, but make the message clear. You want the business, you’re willing to do just about anything to get the business, but you’re the best deal going.
Once you have done that, your sales will increase. Make the message clear, position the product calls to action on your webpages in obvious places and then hire a firm like DocMurdock.com to optimize your website and expose it to your target market with traffic looking to purchase your product or service. Nothing like having a website for auto parts and the visitors who show up are looking for candy and don’t buy anything. I can help you change that. So don’t waste your time and your money. Come to someone who will work with you, examine your expectations, ensure they’re realistic for your website, and help you with consulting for offline as well as online marketing.
After all, just because you built the building, filled it with goods and hung out the sign that says “OPEN FOR BUSINESS” doesn’t mean people will flock in and buy. You still have to market to them, and give them a reason to purchase from nobody else but you.
See you on the web.

So has Google found your site yet?
Over the last 12 months Google has undergone many
changes to the way it looks at and lists your site.
This week sees another upgrade in Google.
As any search engine or member of the public will
tell you, Google or any other search engine MUST
provide the most relevant listings for a search query.
One of the major changes that Google is implementing
is that it will not display more than one AdWords listings
for the same company Domain Name. At present they also
try to have only one listing (with a secondary) per website
domain displayed in the top search results.
This affects mainly affiliated member sites.
This also affects companies that provide a member program.
Say if you were using Google AdWords and there are
5 members from your company paying to use AdWords
only one listing will be displayed and this will be the
highest bid for that keyword.
In another words the average Joe Marketer will have
to pay a high price to have his AdWord listing displayed.
For Google and for the Google search user this provides
a more defined search. There will not be 5 AdWords placed
for the same company or merchant as has been the case in
the past.
With 3 or 4 AdWords for the same company displayed,
allowed a person who paid a bid of 50 cents to be displayed
at the bottom of the list while someone who could afford to
pay five dollars for the same keyword to have his link at the
top of the page. You stood a chance when your AdWord
was displayed, now you have to have the highest bid at
that particular time.
BUT, this is not an insurmountable problem. This is where
owning your own Domain name and web site is a must.
At present many search engines only allow one plus a secondary
listing for any one domain to be displayed in their top page or
two of their search results.
NOTE:
There is no easy way around not owning your own domain.
Getting your affiliated member site listed in a search engine
is becoming almost impossible, especially when you consider
that there are tens and even hundreds of thousands of other
members belonging to the same company, promoting their
member site too.
This can and will affect many companies as they rely on
their members to promote the companies site though
pay per click - AdWords and standard search engine listing.
With odds of one hundred thousand to one you have better
odds of winning the lotteries.
Once marketers understand the concept of creating their
own website, one of the next hurdles they face is the content
for their site. What so often happens is that they do not consider
themselves as copy writers, so they copy the content from their
member site. I have seen this many times where marketers
websites are almost exact copies of their companies site.
The definition of a search engine is to provide the most relevant
search results for a specific search.
Google are only trying to live up to this definition. So as they
are only allowing one AdWord display listing for any one company
or domain, Google are also only allowing one page with the exact
same content to be displayed.
If your web page is a duplicate of your companies page, then
your page is very likely to receive a duplicate content penalty
with Google.
In other words if your site has been indexed by Google and
they find your page to be an exact copy of another page, it is
highly likely your page will receive the penalty and not the
company site.
Remember that the Google Bot’s are checking and indexing
around eight billion pages each month. It takes a very powerful
computer system to keep track of all those pages and the content
on those pages to return relevant searches. It doesn’t take to
much brain power to realize that as Google indexes a page it
can also compare your page with the thousands that fit into
your product, service or information category.
It is generally thought that for a 1st offense your page will be
removed from their index for 30 days then for the 2nd offense
for 60 days then for a 3rd offense your page will be removed
for 90 days. After the 3rd offence you can forget about Google.
But it gets worse, if your page contains duplicate content
and Google spots it, for the time your page is cooling off
for 30 days it affects the rest of your site as you will no doubt
have many links in the site map etc, to the banned page so this
can and does affect your whole sites ranking.
The news is not all bad as anyone who has the ability to consider
marketing any product and is prepared to attempt creating a web
site, also has the ability to reword and rewrite the content from
their company site.
Most other pay per click search engines or ones that accept paid
inclusion like Overture already use similar policies that Google
is now implementing.
There are exceptions to the duplicate rule like RSS News feeds,
Directories, ezine article Directories and sites like Ebay and
Yahoo stores where these individual stores use the Yahoo
or eBay domain name.
Using good common sense, you should never have any problems
with Google or other search engines as you are promoting your
website as your own unique sales display.
Don’t get me wrong Google is my first choice in Search Engines.
Google offers many f`ree tools for web masters.

If you to Google.com search, you can check the links to your Website.
(incoming links). Where I have www.internet-income-index in the
search box, you would type in your website domain.
Now if I can get 151 links back to my site without submitting
it to search engines, think what you can do…
Most Internet Marketers average between 20 and 50 links
using the Google links tool.
My point is if you add one link to your website in a single
Internet directory, Google and other search engines will
find you and your site just by following the link you placed
in that one directory.
If you check issue 103 of this ezine dated May 26 - 2004
Google only had 2 links to my ezine site listed.
I have placed a link on my other personally owned sites and
have added ezine articles I have written in a couple of Ezine
Article Directories. You will find EzineArticles.com will be
listed above my site in a search for my ezine site as they are
a very high profile site.
The higher the profile or page rank Google gives any site that
you have your site link in, the higher Google is likely to rate your
site providing you have played by Googles rules.
Did you know that many search engines consider you have 2 sites
one with http;//www. in front of your domain and one with just the
http;//yourdomain.com plus if you have a sub-domain name like
http://www.search.yourdomain.com they treat this generally as
a different domain or website. The word search is the sub-domain
in this instance.
But it is far easier to promote just the one domain as opposed
to promoting 3 variations of the one domain name. I know
that from past experience after I listed it in the Dmoz.org Directory without “www.”
http://VoipConference.info
with 21 incoming links
compared to 320 incoming links (without the www.)
“+voipconference.+info
TIP,
Domain Name Branding your website using a one off name
like Google or eBay is still best when it comes to search engine
marketing and for domain name recognition if you are prepared
to invest the time and money, but if your budget is limited then
using a domain name that describes your business or includes
keywords relating to your product or service is equally good.
May Google be kind to your site.
